Too often we are in our workshops or doing admin and one thing that we should be doing is visiting the galleries that stock our work.
On Thursday I had the pleasure of dropping in to Leeds Craft Centre & Design Gallery with some top up stock and for a good look round. The Gallery is based in The City Art Gallery and has been open for 33 years now displaying the work of over 300 professional crafts people mainly from the UK. There is an exhibition programme includng a print shows and three dedicated showcases focusing on designers working in one medium. as well as permanent stockists and is the best venue in Leeds for handmade jewellery, ceramics, glass and wood.
Upcoming exhibitions to look out for
Solo showcase by Cornish based ceramicist Charlotte Jones. 17th January – 30th April 2015
Ceramics inspired by the Cornwall land and seascapes.
Her distinctive pots are made from coloured stoneware clay, using oxides and self dug clay. The coloured clays are used as a three-dimensional collage material: layers contrast and merge. Pot bases are thrown, coils added, pinched and scraped into an organic vessel. Burnished with a pebble when leather hard, the pots are through high firing returned to stone.
