SALE ARTS TRAIL
SAT 28TH NOV 5-10pm
The Life Centre, Sale
I am fully rested after my recent holiday and full of energy to start on what is probably now one of my busiest times of year and yes even busier than Christmas!!
It is the season for local Arts Trails open studio events in the coming weeks. First up is the Heatons Arts Trail where I will be exhibiting at ceramicist Tone Von Krogh’s house & studio 26th & 27th June. Then on to Sale Arts Trail which I co organise and will have a pop up jewellery shop at Coasters Cafe in Sale.
It is that time of year picture me sat here with a crisp brand new diary ready to fill its pages with ideas, plans and upcoming events for 2015. Last year was super busy with an array of shows all over the country such as Lustre in Nottingham, Made in London, The Art Market in Holmfirth and lots of shows at home in Manchester.
From September to Christmas was a non-stop mission of making jewellery, orders, commissions and shows so by Christmas you can’t entertain the future year ahead and the new diary!!! However, after 900 mince pies, 2000 quality street and a dinner on Christmas Day that fills you up until New Years Day you start reaching for that diary and start to make a mark in it!
So 2015 at Jo Lavelle Jewellery will see a series of pop up shops, new shows and of course lots of new pieces to add to my collection. There is going to be an emphasis on the disco range with new necklaces and earrings in the pipeline along with new mini loopy pompom pieces to match one of most popular rings to date the beautiful and delicate mini loopy ring pictured below. There will also be some gold added to the collection. Lastly during February and March jewellery production will concentrate on lots more one off exhibition pieces with the emphasis being on one off stones for neckpieces and rings.
One of the big hits last year was my involvement in the Sale Arts Trail firstly in the summer event then for the one day Christmas Bazaar. Both events were a huge success and were heavily attended by eager visitors and buyers. The next event will take place on Friday 10th – 12th July with pretty much the same format as last year but more open studios and more exhibitors.
I am really excited to be involved with The Social Butterfly Rachael Adams and you can find me at her her show Home Is Event (listed below) and Object a new online concept store to be launched soon selling work from British and International designer makers creating beautiful objects for your home, wardrobe and wedding.

SUNDAY 23RD NOVEMBER 12-7pm
In the run up to the Christmas Bazaar there will be a series of Q&A with some of the exhibitors. The series will start with the three organisers Sarah Malone, Sophie Nixon and first up Jeweller Jo Lavelle.
What is your practice? Materials? Processes?
I make jewellery. I mainly work in silver and sometimes gold. I have recently learnt how to cut stones so have started to incorporate them into my work mainly in one off pieces. My processes are very much traditional jewellery making techniques with hand tools but one piece of equipment with a plug a could not be without is a barrel polisher.
What 5 words describe your work?
Silver, fun, moveable, fiddly and playful.
Do you have any design heroes?
I have many!! Lucienne Day, Robin Day, Jacqueline Ryan, Zaha Hadid, Katy Hackney, Kathy Murphy, Cathy Chotard, Syann Van Niftrik and Karl Fritsch,

Sunday 23rd November
After Sale Arts Trail’s hugely successful inaugural summer event in July we decided to keep the momentum flowing by having a Christmas Bazaar.
This will be a one day event with 19 artists and makers selling a selection of work including jewellery, leather bags and accessories, photography, ceramics, art, children’s books and teddies and concrete vases and vessels all under one roof. The Christmas Bazaar will be the perfect place to start your Christmas shopping, listen to carols and enjoy a glass of mulled wine.
In the build up to the event we will have Q&A with some of the makers and artist’s starting with the three organisers Sarah Malone, Sophie Nixon and Jo Lavelle starting this weekend.
