This saturday sees the continuation of the Manchester Craft and design Centre’s 30th birthday celebrations.
Free family friendly launch event
14th July 2012
Crafting History will showcase creative responses to the history of Manchester Craft & Design Centre. Artist Carys Davies will produce a ceramic installation, uncovering tales and memories of MCDC donated during Collecting History. 26 resident makers from the Centre will also donate work to the exhibition.
During the launch event for Collecting History, students from the BA Embroidery course at Manchester Metropolitan University will deliver a series of participatory and sampling activities for visitors. The activities will be inspired by the history of the Centre and will link to the sampler-cultureclash event on the same evening (see below).

Performances start at 7pm
sampler-cultureclash will host an evening of sampling shenanigans at MCDC. This will include a live sound performance from members of the collective. The event will explore and celebrate the art of sampling through sound, embroidery, word and performance.
The sampler-cultureclash collective, which includes David Littler, Jason Singh, Yusra Warsama and Berit Greinke, will gather sounds, words and stories from Manchester Craft and Design Centre and use these within their performance. The collective will use information specifically relating to MCDCs 30-year history. This promises to be a contemporary performance not to be missed!
